If you use WordPress, you know that you can easily embed video by simply pasting the embed code into a post. But what if you want more control over the size of the video, or even the way it looks?
That’s where the plugin Viper Video Quicktags comes in. It’s easy to install, set up and use.
First, install the plugin via your dashboard and activate. You will now see it in your settings.
Clicking on it will take you to the plugin settings page. The first page, “General,” gives you the option of choosing what video platforms you will be using to embed videos. And if you are linking them in from your own server, you can use the Quicktime option. By clicking the box “Show Editor Button,” these will appear as icons on your post/page editor window, which I will show you momentarily. You can also set a global size for the videos of each platform.
In the “Additional Settings,” the video alignment lets you set it globally for all videos you embed. The second option will place the icons in your post/page editor, which you chose to setup on the previous settings.
The remaining settings let you “skin” your video, or at least change some of the options for how it looks. For example, if you click on “YouTube,” you will see the additional customizations you can set.
Now that you are finished with the settings, when you open to create a new post or page, you will find the additional icons for the video platforms you selected in your “General” settings.
If you want to embed a YouTube video, simply click on the YouTube icon and the window will appear. And instead of having to deal with the embed code, simply paste the URL of the video in. You will see you now have another option to change the size of the video as well. Once you have the URL pasted in, click “Okay” and it will drop in a line of code. Publish your post and—ta-da—your video appears!
So if you are looking for a bit more control over your embedded videos, Vipers Video Quicktags could be your answer.
